Clark Stills asks, "Does anyone know how to find Preferred IFR Routes
(the ones normally assigned by ATC regardless of what's in your filed
IFR flight plan)?"
My best luck is utilizing Duats and using "low-altitude Airway
auto-routing" choice on the Flight Planner.
Or just file it direct and I usually get it. If I file direct ("Direct
routing GPS/LORAN") I usually print from Duats both the direct flight
plan and the Low altitude Airway auto-routing flight plan. Then I am
prepared for the ATC route if needed.
And then there is the rare occasion when who knows what is going to be
assigned. I find ATC great, helpful and answering questions keeping me
safe.
