Joe, I fly an RV-6A (nose gear) which has the same type spring main gear rods as used in the Rv-4. I took some window modling (curved on one side) shaped wood pieces and make two pieces to run down each side of the gear (stream lined into the wind flow), then I wrapped them with fiberglass to stiffen them. It was more to prevent shimmy than anything else but I noticed it reduce the wiggle and waggle on landing and taxi as well. Van used to recommend doing that. But later stiffer gear apparently reduced the need for it.

Subject: [FlyRotary] RV question
My friend just made first flight in a RV4 with a Lycoming. He said that the
main gear is too springy and he had wrapped it with fiberglass.
Do you stiffen the gear with wraps of carbon fiber?
what kind of resin? Other solutions?
He said it bounces a lot on landing
