You're killing me here Rusty!  Much cheaper to cool the EGTs by going lean.  Unless you turbo, I don't think it is even possible to hurt a rotary by going too lean (unless the fire goes out and you hit the ground : )

Sorry Tracy.  I was thinking of climb, which is the only time I tend to see the EGT warning.  In that case, I don't usually care to reduce power by leaning the mixture.  I also lived in fear of detonation so long (mostly FD, but also the initial turbo installation) that I still shy away from lean mixtures.  
 
On my only cross country flight, took off at full throttle, climbed to 10,000, and never touched the throttle lever until I was ready to descend to Paul's airport.  On the way there, I played with the mixture quite a bit, and found that it's like having a second throttle.  Just amazing.
