Sad to report, but Thursday afternoon, a relatively new 360 crashed and burned on a westbound freeway segment just south of Pearson Field in Vancouver, Washington.
The sole occupant was the 78-year-old pilot William Cody of Ridgefield, WA. He was reportedly not injured, but got out of the aircraft just before it erupted into flames, which apparently consumed the aircraft.
One account stated that the Lancair 360 was powered by a "converted Oldsmobile engine" and had only 7 or 8 hours of flight time. The builders were reportedly trying to solve engine cooling problems.
(These automotive engine conversions can be very tricky)
