Rob:
Regarding garage heat, I just had an "Enerco" thermostatically controlled
gas heater installed in my shop/garage here in the cold country (Coeur
d'Alene, Idaho) rated at about 35-40,000 BTU and it does the job nicely.
Area heated is approx. equivalent to two and a half standard garages.
Requires only a small external vent or other source of fresh air. The burner
requires no venting according to code and is listed as an Infra-red heater
(whatever that means, since all heat is a form of infra-red radiation). Just
to be safe, I installed a CO detector in the shop ceiling and it hasn't
sounded off yet. Only draw-back I can think of is the fact that it uses a
pilot light, so I'm always burning a little bit of gas. Cost, if I remember,
was around $450, installed.
Cheers,
Dan Schaefer
