You paid 6% sales tax! You have to pay sales tax on automobiles and aircraft
in Michigan?
In Virginia, you don't pay sales tax on automobiles and aircraft, but only a
'titling' or 'registration' tax, which is less than our 5% state sales tax.
Our titling tax is 3% for automobiles and 2% for airplanes.
Those of us who are building aircraft are the legal manufacturers, just as
Cessna or Piper and they don't pay sales tax when they purchase the parts to
manufacture an aircraft.
I didn't pay sales tax for the purchase of any of the parts for my Lancair.
A perfect legal argument for us builders to be exempt from sales tax is that
we are manufacturing an airplane and have to pay a titling registration tax
to register it with the state.
