Angier,

I have done (two wires and a momentary push switch) your mentioned
suggestion a few years ago, to override the gear down pressure switch
information (after analyzing, reading, reversing the famous spool valve,
etc.).

As you mention it, a push to the momentary (RED) switch starts the gear down
process. Works now for years without any problem.

This solution is OK for me (one Aircraft with one pilot).
A new pump or Wolfgang's solution would be better if there were different
Pilots flying one Aircraft...

pressure switch to a momentary push button switch?
I have gages installed and so can observe the hi/lo pressures. A push
of the momentary switch should start the pump.
