Mr. Schaefer,

We have had very good results using the conductive paint for ground planes. We typically will apply it to the inside of the structure right on inner skin of the fuselage for coms, transponder, TCAD and some types of GPS. Its best to also paint a small pad on the outside that the antenna will sit on. Make sure the pad on the outside is touching the ground plane through the mounting holes by applying paint on the inside of the mounting holes. Always use the gasket under the antenna, It is designed to make the connection to the body of the antenna. As for the navs, they don't use a ground plane like the others but they do need to be attached (conductively) to the carbon wing skin, not just mounted in the tip. We have had much better luck with nav whiskers protruding from the vertical.
