We typically will apply it to the inside of the structure right on inner skin of the fuselage for coms, transponder, TCAD and some types of GPS. Its best to also paint a small pad on the outside that the antenna will sit on. Make sure the pad on the outside is touching the ground plane through the mounting holes by applying paint on the inside of the mounting holes. Always use the gasket under the antenna, It is designed to make the connection to the body of the antenna. As for the navs, they don't use a ground plane like the others but they do need to be attached (conductively) to the carbon wing skin, not just mounted in the tip. We have had much better luck with nav whiskers protruding from the vertical. Hope this is helpful. Matthew Collier Fibercraft Inc. ivdiggs@gmail.com On Fri, Mar 14, 2008 at 8:41 AM, Richard T. We have had very good results using the conductive paint for ground planes.

Folks,

I am getting ready to paint (Conductive) ground planes for COM and X-Pndr.

    The questions I have are:

1)     Prime first ? Prime Over the top ?

2)     It seems the antennas have a gasket to maintain a good seal. I assume the gasket would go between the base and the painted on ground plane. How do you get a good contact from the painted ground plane to the antennas ?

Since I am on the topic, how about the ground planes for the NAV antennas in the eGlass Winglets ? Anything special to be concerned with ?
