Jim,
I shopped around quite a bit before buying a Garmin GMA 340 and GNS 430.
Some discount places will sell you the units but they charge $200-250 to
prewire them. They will not ship them without that. I finally purchased my
equipment through Southeast Aerospace, FL www.seaerospace.com/. They will
sell them outright and had by far the lowest prices ( GNS was $ 800 lower
than closest quote ).
I'm using Archer antennas.
Regarding comments about Sandel:
It makes a lot of sense using the Sandel in a new installation. It will save
you a lot of other equipment such as announciator panel, markers, GPS CDI
and a HSI head ( huge space/ weight saver). Not to mention the absolute
sexappeal this unit has over anything else on the market.
I would agree with you that an autopilot is nearly a no-go decision for a
long cross country trip. It should be up there on top of most peoples "want"
list if not already installed. Thank you to Rick Agente for posting pictures
of his installation on the LML.
