Some Notes:

I installed the full EAR package on my Lancair with special attention to the D-section of the stub wings since thay can act as amplifying soundboxes, the cockpit floor and firewall.  The interior is carpeted and fabric finished and the seats are sheepskin.  My kit serial was 174, delivered in mid 1989 with 1/8 inch thick canopy.  With only the pilot aboard, at cruise, the noise registered 103 Db (C-scale) at the head level.  By contrast, my 1985 Corvette registered 95 Db at 70 MPH.  I don't wear my Bose headset in the Corvette, but I should.

Under these circumstances, most of the noise comes from the prop and wind.  Most of the noise enters thru the 1/8 inch thick canopy and the air vents (NACA ducts on the sidewall).  At some point, Lancair switched to a 3/16 inch thick canopy which should have reduced the noise significantly.

Since I have a newer Corvette and better seals on the canopy, I will measure the noise levels again when I can.  If the day is warm enough, I'll include readings with the vents open and closed.  Hopefully, someone with the thicker canopy can also provide sound level info.
