i am not a cfi but in general as i recall from my extra flying, push on the pedal that is harder to push on to stop the spin if it is not obvious which way you are spinning-which it may not be in an unintentional spin(after pulling the power and neutralizing the aelerons). once the spin stops gently use the elevator to fly the plane to straight and level- watching airspeed. i, also, strongly believe that an unusual attitude/spin training course or preferably a week long intro to acro course should be taken by all pilots. yes, you may puke but it's great fun and an awesome education to see what can be done in some aircraft and it may save your heiney in our aircraft someday! also, a glider rating imho, is also very worthwhile to pursue-only takes a week or less in usually a balmy environment.
