For the
record
It is premature to determine what
happened until the NTSB has published its report of the accident. However,
there are several facts we wish to share:
After careful inspection of the engine
we found that there was no failure of the engine:
- The engine itself was serviced by
Diemech in October 2006 and found in good operational
condition.
- There was air in the fuel control
unit.
- There was air in the mechanical fuel
pump.
- The main fuel filter was out of
fuel.
- The propeller was not in
beta.
- There was fuel all over the crash
site.
- The aircraft hade a standard Lancair
fuel system with the addition of a luggage tank.
- The luggage tank selector valve was in
off position the tank was empty.
- The main fuel selector valve was on
the left tank.
Taking the above facts into
consideration, it is our assumption is that the engine ran out of
fuel.
