Christer,
I had
a problem with a small leak from both of the turbos on my TSIO-550 powered
Legacy when we were in the early test flight stage. Initially we thought the
seals were leaking and sent both turbos back to the manufacturer. The same
problem was evident when the turbos came back. The solution was to install a one
way check valve on the turbo oil return line on each turbo; that stopped
oil from draining back from the engine, into the turbos, when the engine
isn't running. No leaks since.
Darryl
Greenamyer had the same problem with his TSIO-550.

After 5
years & 8600 hours my LNC4 is ready to go – but – having problems with a
rough engine on low rpms. It’s a turbocharged
TSIOE1B and after some investigations we found oil leaking from both turbos into the airintake.
Engine does not like too much oil and it was easy to hear its protests. Some
experts say it’s normal with some oil leaking from the lubrication of the
turbos in the beginning when using break in oil.
After some hours when everything gets tighter and when switching to normal
oil it
will disappear. Other experts says this is bad and
could not be accepted. Possible reason can be blocked evacuation on the return
oil pipe from turbo back to oilsump or too much
counterpressure in the oilsump.
Would be
interesting to hear if anybody else have had simular experience and what you
did about it?
