On all three of the Lancairs I've built (2
ES's, 1 Legacy), I've used the cheap oil separator from ACS, about $40, and run
the drain line to a plug that hangs just inside the air exit at the bottom of
the cowl. Every few hours I pull the plug and drain out the nasty goo that
collects there. Works fine, costs not much, keeps oil off the belly, and
the distillate sludge out of the engine.
The only problem with this is that the oil
separator is a fairly large can that you have to find room for on the
firewall.
