Lee - I missed the first post on this
but I had a popping problem early in my IO-360's life. After playing
around with mixture (messing it up really) I did what Mike Dehate originally
advised which was to shield the mechanical fuel pump. Just a piece of
aluminum sheet clamped to the engine mount in such a way as to block radiated
heat from the exhaust to the pump. Never had a problem since. I
reset the idle mixture to the normal place (causing 50 rpm rise on cutoff) and
life was good.
