I am referring to a post on June 17 2004 and one posted June 14,indicating yourself and Jim Scales.I thought you were both having gear problems.
I did not say your gear had 1/4"play,but that mine did.
My gear shows the play in the receptacle which allows a movement of 1/4" play at the wheel area, but the wheel and mounting pad are not loose.the slop is where the gear leg goes into the receptacle.
Just as I suspected,I was advised by some not to weld.
I also tried shimming, but that won't work without removing the gear leg.I did pull out the bolts to check for wear and they seam to be o.k.In hindsight I wished I would have checked for play when the plane was upside down, but it didn't; enter my mind, and I'm not so sure it would have clicked any way in less it was very obvious.
I feel know vibration on taxi, takeoff or landing.only see tire wear.It seems to me the bolt that runs through the receptacle and through the gear leg would wear before the hardened steel.Maybe the concern is more than it should be and that I should have opted for the better tires.(I did get new Michelin tires and tubes still in the box)
