On the first startup of my ES (IO-550, Woodward governor, Hartzell
3-blade), after a good warmup I had to wind it up a bit (1500 to 1700 rpm),
pull the pitch knob all the way back, then sit and wait for a bit.  Just
about the time I was going to conclude that the little handful of
semi-precious metal (governor) was fubar right out of the box -- voila!
Pitch change, rpm drop.  End of problem.  All this, by the way, was done
with my A&P cheering me on; he says it's normal for first startup, and that
it just takes a while for all of the oil lines to get cleared of air and
start doing their thing.  I guess I'd try again before concluding things
don't work.
