On the other hand how many boats have variable-pitch props?<<
What is the typical speed range of a boat? 0-35 knots? Doesn't seem you
would need a variably pitched prop under those circumstances. One point on
constant speed props that I think hasn't been addressed, is workload
reduction in cruise flight. Updrafts, downdrafts, descents, or whatever, set
the prop once and it remains at that RPM. If you need to descend a couple
thousand feet, simply point the nose down, no need to worry about
overspeeding prop. On flights with a lot of convective activity it is nice
just to fly the airplane and not have to constantly adjust the throttle to
prevent the prop RPM from overspeeding.
