Doesn't seem you would need a variably pitched prop under those circumstances. One point on constant speed props that I think hasn't been addressed, is workload reduction in cruise flight. Updrafts, downdrafts, descents, or whatever, set the prop once and it remains at that RPM. If you need to descend a couple thousand feet, simply point the nose down, no need to worry about overspeeding prop. On flights with a lot of convective activity it is nice just to fly the airplane and not have to constantly adjust the throttle to prevent the prop RPM from overspeeding.
