You know Tim Ong, so you may be aware of this option. Tim produces the
AirLite landing lights. They are designed to be mounted in a variety of
different places, including the landing gear. My tentative plan is to mount
an AirLite in the cowl.

I would think that the landing lights would be more effective if they were
off the ground somewhat. Also, even if the vibration was not a problem, I
would suspect moisture would be more of an issue unless they are very well
sealed.
