Okay, I'll skip the aluminum, but....
Fiberglass....Carbon fiber......could be an alternative over
plywood. As a composite I can form a stronger cigar box at a
fraction of the weight.

I've got some 6" aluminum tubing that I may use, but the
simplest thing is to just build it with plywood.
