Been working with a builder who just got his 20B running on a Seawind amphib. He is using the EC3 with the RX-8 trigger wheel option. Had many teething problems and one of them turned out to be an EC3 fault. This also applies to the stock 20B sensor version of EC3 as well.
There turned out to be two problems. One is a code fault which causes the trailing coils not to fire at RPMs below 600. This makes starting a bit more difficult. The other problem is an installation guide documentation error that has the coil trigger pin assignment scrambled. Engine will hardly run at all with this problem.
All users of the 20B EC3 should contact me for mandatory update. The update will not require any change to your wiring since I decided to change the software to match the documentation rather than the other way around.
Note that this AD does NOT apply to the EC2 version of the engine controller.
