How many builders got their engines new from the dealer, and how many got them from salvage? Mine is a JDM salvage engine. Those will be around for quite some time. If you are worried about needing a replacement engine, go out and start looking for a salvage engine now. make sure it is in good condition and then pickle it. Compared to a lycoming, a rotary should last at least as long, and you should be able to get two or three short block 13Bs for the price of just rebuilding one lycoming. Those two or three engines  would outlast most of use on this list.

We've been able to do that for decades.

As for the Corvair, all you need are some serviceable castings and the forged crank and you are good to go. Everything else is either easy to rebuild or available aftermarket. 

I'm sure the same will be true for the rotary in good time.

And like I've told concerned future Corvair builders, how many engines do you think you'll need over your lifetime?
