I took another look at the third gen front cover on
a 2nd gen motor. It seems to cut the corners when compared to the outline
of the 2nd gen pan. i think it would be easier to modify the pan then to
find a 3rd gen pan with holes that don't line up. 3 holes in the 3rd gen
cover line up with the 2nd gen pan. The plug side looks like you could
weld one hole shut and re drill. The intake / exhaust side looks like you
could weld a flange in the corner of the pan extending the flange inboard,
backfill the space between the flange and the pan with JB Weld and re drill
2 holes in new locations. The two bolts going in these holes would need to
be longer and a curved spacer would be need to distribute the pressure from the
back side of the head of the bolt to the curved pan surface.
