Not necessarily so for us early users.  We don't have that auto function, but every annual I flip the cold start on and one set of injectors off to test that backup.  Works every time, and COULD come in handy when a plugged injector leads to very rough running.

If wired according to the manual; when one set of injectors is turned off, the pulse width to the other is AUTOMATICALLY doubled.  It does not require switching the cold start switch.
