OK, so the list isn't being over run with other messages at the moment,
so here's some more t-shirt stuff.
My impression is that George's design had more support than the
"Aerosmith" design.
I asked George to send his dxf file so that I could get a higher
resolution image. I loaded the dxf into my drafting program. The
program (VariCAD) will only output a bmp file. Wal-Mart needs a jpg
file. No problem, I can convert bmp to jpg with something else. Then
I find the program will only output bmp files from a 3D image. It took
three frustrating hours relearning how to make a 2D image into a 3D
image. Then I found out the bmp conversion doesn't actually work, at
least not on my machine. OK, so I revert to a screen capture which
gives me a pretty good image anyway. I could have done that directly
from the 2D!!! I sent George a copy of the 3D image that resulted. He
said he really liked it and suggested a few modifications.
After getting up to speed on the 2D to 3D conversion, it was easy to
make the modifications, and produce both 2D and 3D versions of George's
design. The files are in non-compressed jpg format (which means they
are about 300K each) so will not be posted to the list. I've put them

I've found several ways the t-shirts can be made in small quantities.
First there is the Wal-Mart service. I checked with the local store,
but they would send them off to the same place I would order from over
the internet, so I will try one with that route. Second, there is a
company that sells iron on transfer material that can be printed on at
home. Price is very reasonable at $1.09 per sheet of 8 X 11 transfer
material but it does come in a box of 25 sheets.

Third, there is the Cafe Press that someone sent info about earlier.
Fourth, there is real screen printing. This is only good for fairly
large quantities, so not of interest to me. I have seen at least one
source refer to the dye sublimation printing process as screen
printing, but they also offered regular screen printing and
distinguished between the two. Oh, you can also buy a direct to
garment printer for only $15,199.00 though for some reason it only
prints on light colored fabric. You have to get another one for
$15,950.00 to print on dark colored fabric. I'm going to try the Wal-
Mart service, and the iron on transfers.
