Golly Ken, sorry to hear you've joined the ranks of LSA. I joined this year. All I had to do to renew my 3rd class this spring was get a treadmill ( which I've done since my MI in 79), blood lipids, and cartiologist report. No AME required. 30% over my age 100% fit on stress test and all most 2X's FAA min.. Problem is the cardiologist did more than the FAA required by doing a nuke stress. They "measure" your ejection fraction and it was 36%. The FAA min is 35, but there have been 2 studies that show you can reduce your chance of dying from sudden cardiac arrest by 34% with and ICD ( internal cardiac defribillator). He put it in his report that he recommended an ICD and I declined. Went to Memphis and MD daughter got a cardiologist and he backed the first one. Did not turn report in to FAA after talking to their docs at lakelland. Have decided to take a chance based on all the other factors that they seem to ignore. Like I skiied at 10 and 13 k feet this spring an regularly checked my O2 % and it was always equal to are better than 2 guys who are younger that were skiing with me.
I am slowly re-engine-ing the 9A. Can't get excited to work on it like I was going to fly it. Will get it done and fly with "qualified pilots" in the right seat until find a buyer.
Might just go back to Flightstars or will do a 12A. Love it except it should be high winged for low and slow looking.
