I need to know the size of the larger bolt that goes thru the oil pan and was part of the original engine mount in a car. I think it may be 12mm x1.25 but can' find any that size. The original one I have are too long and if you would cut them off all the threads would be lost.

If you're sure of the size, you can get most anything at http://www.mcmaster.com/   Just search for "bolt", then narrow it down with the options they give.   You will have to buy a pack of 10 or 25, but it's probably still about as cheap as buying a few at the local hardware store (if you could find them).  
 
If you're not sure of the size, they sell some nice thread gauges too :-)
