The main draw back from to air exit on top of the cowling is oil  spray on the windshield in case of oil leak.

True.. but you'll never get ice on the windshield if you ever run into it ...  :-)

I'm not a huge believer in up-draft cooling... simply for the oil reason myself..

Didn't the famour 'Burt' do this on the Catbird or something.. and they had a problem like this [oil thing..]or something..??   Memory isn't what it used to be..
and I haven't hit 30 yet... sigh...
