A while back someone mentioned some IC's that were up for auction on
ebay. They were used in automotive applications for fluid sensors. As
I recall, they were a simple on/off type device and used a single wire
for signal. They were very cheap (< 10 cents/ea) as I recall, but would
be a little more from Digi-key. I bought a few, but haven't decided
where to use them. Maybe these would do the job (not sure if they will
work in oil). I'll see if I can find the info I had bookmarked on this
device.

It looks to be a float type sensor, Joe. That is, the trickle of
oil
will actually make it alarm sooner, not later.
I didn't read anything about a float. I do see a red thing at the top
of the probe that could be a float, I guess. I was assuming this was a
little more sophisticated...I.e. a capacitance probe.
