I got insurance through SkySmith with AIG for a little
over $1400 for the same coverage. SkySmith is aware of the rotary
community and once I told him I was using Tracy Crook's equipment - it made a
difference. Also the fact that I had over 250 hours flying time on the
rotary made a difference.

(SkySmith) is the BEST! He really baled me out when Avemco screwed me over
on the RV-3. He just seems to be the only agent I've found
that will really try to get you insurance. Sadly, he's still
at the mercy of the underwriter, and their rules don't always
make sense to us.
I've
spoken with him several times over the last week, and know that I
could insure the single rotor engine in a number of planes, just not
the Kolb, since AIG doesn't write policy's on Kolbs. He's tried,
but they won't budge. I guess I wouldn't be surprised to find that they
have extra requirements on other aircraft as well, but if anyone can help you
with the policy, it's Scott.
