They
would not renew my policy in December when I told them I was putting a rotary
engine in it. I tried to work through the logic of why the engine
mattered on a builders risk policy. The best answer they gave (which I
thought was BS) was if you finished building and started flying without
notifing the insurance company, in some states the ins company might have to
cover any flight losses.

That’s
interesting; and a bit unnerving. I’ve had an Avemco policy for a few
years now, and I don’t recall ever being asked what engine is going
in. And I think it says somewhere on the policy that is for “Not in
motion” coverage.
I guess I’ll
have to keep the engine a secret.
