So my belief that I need to run richer for the high power settings on

 the rotary is incorrect?  I have Tracy's EC2 so will have to set the

 operating mixture.  That reminds me, I haven't bought the bung for the

 O2 sensor yet (for the EM2).

Bob;

I adjusted the mixture mapping on the EC2 to give me about peak EGT with the mixture knob at 12:00.  I then found max static rpm (5300) at about the 1:00 to 1:30 position.  So I’m assuming turn mixture knob slightly to the right for takeoff and climb, and then somewhere over toward 10:00 – 11:00 for lean cruise, depending.

On the dyno, we found max power at lamda of about .92 and about 150F rich of peak.

BTW; I found that the mixture bar on the EM2 a bit below half way up for peak EGT, and always about 1 bar short of all the way up for very rich. Running lean at power, there can be no reading at all; off the bottom.  Am I the only one seeing this?

And back to the original point, I’d guess there is some unburned fuel going out the exhaust port at max power mixture. It’s the characteristic of engine.  I have no idea whether this would effect the exhaust temp downstream with the VAM design where the internal air tube air mixes with the exhaust.  Even running lean at high rpm there is likely some burning going out the port, but with the excess O2 all fuel will be burned before getting very far.

FWIW,
