Does an Ellison throttle body have injectors,
or is it a substitute for a carburetor? Paul Conner
I really liked the Ellison that was on my RV-8. These
are self contained gizmos that use low pressure (5-6psi) and have no fuel
return. Some people like to call these carbs, but I think the
term injector is really more
appropriate.
We talked about this some recently, and unfortunately,
the Ellison size is not relevant to us. In other words, I had an EFS-4-5
on my 180 HP Lycoming, and it was fine. This is listed as 180-225 HP
on the Ellison page. For our purposes though, this would be too
small. Also, the dang things are REALLY expensive. I think the
EFS-4-5 is about $1600 from Spruce, and you'd probably need two.
The MicroTech is a nice unit, and it's plenty capable
of taking care of your engine, but you're disadvantaged here by not having
anyone in the group who can help you with it. Getting one of Tracy's
EC-2's would help in that regard, and be much cheaper than an Ellison. The
EC-2 has it's tuning learning curve as well, but there's help available for
that. It also has a backup built-in, which is nice.
Unfortunately, no matter what you do, it's going to
take some time. Either you learn the MicroTech, or you install and learn
something else. You're call.
Good luck,
Rusty
