My 'hangar tenant' had the same (non)result using the JC Whitney unit with the Cont. 6 cyl in his C-170. I'll bet you'll get more effect by doing what Cessna did after universal complaints about high oil temps in C-170's. They put a cooling blast tube on the temp. sensor. (Not a joke. Or at least, not *my* joke.)

I tried one of these on an o-200 I was having cooling problems with a couple of years ago. I even went so far as to coat the inside with heatsink compound and to paint it with what I thought was an organic flat black paint. Also directed a blast tube at it for a direct cooling source.
All with no discernable effect.

I also have it marked down on my "don't forget to order" list. (Of
course, I forgot). Thanks for reminding me. I am going to put one
on also. I STILL say....it can't hurt !!! Paul Conner

All this talk about oil filters and finned oil pans has reminded
me of something I was going to try before.
JC Whitney offers a simple device that slips over your filter for
additional cooling

It was discussed on the RV list about a year ago with a few claims
of 10 degree temp drops. They only want $20 so I was going to try
it, as it falls into that "can't hurt" category. However JC
Whitney's web order page doesn't have an option to ship to Canada
and I couldn't find another source, so I just forgot about it. I
just found that Aircraft $pruce now sells them for $33 and I found
a Porsche supply shop that sells them for $35, but throws in a
free Porsche oil filter (Hey I always wanted a Porsche, maybe I
can build the car around it... I got it one piece at a time, yeah,
yeah.... :-)
Before I go to the trouble, has anyone else tried or
considered one of these?
