While searching on EBay for a Cool Collar, I stumbled across another
interesting device. It appears to be an oil/coolant heat exchanger for
an Audi or Volkswagen. it's not clear but I'm guessing that it may
somehow get sandwiched between the oil filter and mount? For those who
were recently considering use of a oil/coolant exchanger, this might
have some possibilities? Does anyone have any further knowledge of
these?

Todd, Several motorcycles use a water to oil cooler like this due to space constraints. They work OK. A proper cooler will give you much more area though. I also wouldn't trust some of these automotive (non-Mazda) coolers to be up to holding rotary oil pressure at high RPMs. (100 PSI) Lastly you must increase the area of the radiator to enable it to remove the same amount of extra heat. That is often forgotten, the heat must be removed somehow!
