>>This fall we painted the floor in the hanger and had to leave the plane
outside overnight. It rained and I didn't get the chance to fly for a couple
of days. Apparently this caused some cylinder corrosion and my oil
consumption went from 1 qt in 25 hours to 1 qt in 4 hours. <<

I like what you have done with your engine,  but this explanation for the
change in oil consumption just
doesn't "sound right" to me.

I have, over the years,  abused airplanes many times worse than this with
respect to weather and rain, and
infrequent operation and never have observed this kind of issue.

Did the hard run in the race end up re-seating the rings and cause the oil
consumption to go back to 1 qt in 25 hours?

That kind of sudden change in oil consumption is usually related to a
cracked ring, someplace.

BTW... I am very suspicious of oil consumption that is as little as 1 qt in
25 hours... I get a better warm fuzzy feeling
if the oil consumption is somewhere between  1 qt in 10 and 1 qt in 15
hours.

If you get a chance to stop in at GAMI at Ada, Ok.,  please do.  I would
like to buy you some BBQ  and show you around our engine test facility.

Regards,  George Braly
