Tom T and others,
A few months back I did a little research on the drives. The Motion uses a
newer trend in notebooks - a smaller 1.8" HD vs. "standard" notebook drive of
2.5". Shrinking the drive may have changed the tolerances and made altitude
that much more of a challenge. My plan is to keep my eye out for a 1.5", >
8GB solid state drive. Samsung announced one last May, supposedly to be
delivered in August. I haven't seen it yet. It's supposed to be a plug in
alternative for hard drives and not ridiculously expensive (<$1000?)
I would load this drive with only my OS and aviation software. Then I would
carry my regular HD to pop in when I got on the ground.
I also agree about the ChartCase displaying WxWorx... I don't use it for
that. I just toggle between OnWings and Chartcase Pro. I too use Franson
GPSGate to manage splitting the GPS signal - I really like Chartcase Pro
moving maps and putting the plane on the approach plate.
All in all, sounds like our experiences are similar. Once set up, BT works
very well.
