Hello Ian,

There are several airports that might meet your needs in the Washington area. Consider Dulles (KIAD). It's not all that difficult to fly into, rental cars as well as public transportation are available. It's about a 35 minute drive to downtown DC, depending on traffic.

Baltimore (KBWI) is on the north side of the Washington area and so would be a little closer flight wise. ADIZ clearance required. Rental cars are available there also. It's about a 45 minute drive to downtown DC.

If you prefer an uncontrolled airport, Leesburg (KJYO) is fairly close, although you'll still need to get a clearance into the ADIZ (really, not that big of a deal). About an hour drive.

If you don't want to deal with the ADIZ at all, Fredrick, Maryland (KFDK) would probably be the closest non ADIZ airport. AOPA is based there and rental cars are available. It's northwest of DC so a fairly direct flight for you. Probably about an hour 10 minutes drive to downtown DC.

What day(s) are you planning on being in the Washington area? If your schedule works with ours, the absolute best place to land is Dogwood Airpark. The advantages are: No ADIZ clearance required. Free hangar for C-FKRO. Free lodging 100 meters from your plane. Free loaner car to DC (55 minute drive). Free meal. Free beer.

We're on the south side of the DC area just outside all the silly airspace restrictions. You'd have to fly around the ADIZ,  probably over MRB vor, CSN vor and direct here. We're at:
    N38 21.5   W077 27.1  or the DCA 223 radial, 35.8 nm.

Let us know what days and we'll see if it'll work. Always glad to host Lancair folks.
