I would like to know how the Lancair IV & IVP folks "normally" fly
the TSIO-550 engines.
The reason I ask is because we (at GAMI and/or Tornado Alley Turbo)
are thinking about offering a modified TSIO-550 engine along with our PRISM
ignition system.
We are currently flying a modified turbo 550 which is routinely
making 265+ Hp in cruise at 60 to 100 LOP, smooth as a baby's bottom, and
burning about 18 and small change for fuel. Hottest CHT at altitude is <
380F.
With PRISM ignition, and modified as we anticipate, this engine
could make 375Hp at takeoff and maintain peak combustion pressures at or
below those presently encountered . . . and probably cruise at 275 to 300Hp
continuous, but maybe only 265Hp... we would just have to see.
So how do you fly your engines, now?
Takeoff: MP RPM FF Hottest CHT?
How Hot? TIT ?
Climb: MP RPM FF Hottest CHT? How
Hot? TIT ?
Cruise @ 16-18K MP RPM FF Hottest CHT?
How Hot? TIT ?
Cruise @ 25K MP RPM FF Hottest CHT? How
Hot? TIT ?
Your input would be appreciated. George Braly
