I've remove so many layups with a heat gun
that, when the pitot tube heater is on, I'm afraid that it will compromise
the integrity of the resin. If I forget to turn it off after an IMC decent

Ed,
A couple of thoughts re: the heat from the pitot tube.
First, I used Nylaflow in my IVP for the pitot line on the advice of Don
Goetz. Haven't flown yet so I can't comment on your question.
My approach to the pitot tube question arises from experience in my spam
can. I've burned out the heating element in two pitot tubes due to
leaving the switch on inadvertantly. The first time was because I didn't
know any better and the second was because I apparently bumped the switch
to on and failed to realize it. I don't think they are repairable and they
ain't cheap.
I plan an to have an automatic position on my three position pitot switch
(ON-OFF-ON) that will allow the pitot heat to be operated by a thermostat.
I will also have an annunciator lamp that indicates when the element is
actually on.
Regards,
John
