My thought about a 1200 mile leg would be to include a little effort in the
equation. We see the knobs all the way in on the low altitude short run.
And we see the knobs all the way out (almost) on the 350 mile min fuel run.
The long leg would be to allow (require) a little brainwork along the way.
(yes top speed is the goal, however arriving with a few drops (FAR legal
Minimums-yes I've heard the arguments) of fuel would be hopefully obvious).
My little goal is to generate an Excel spreadsheet. It would trade the
variables of tailwind, altitude, and power settings to arrive at a balanced
optimization of speed (with fuel reserves). This would then be way cool on
an Ipaq running the AnyWhere Map (Christmas wish).
One example would be 150KTAS @ 5gph. This would leave about 2 gallons upon
arrival.
It would obviously not be a race for the faint hearted.
Ok. Ok. I'll give in to letting you go East if that'll get more
participation.
