I may not have tested all the possibilities, but flying behind a Garmin 430 means you can just about throw away the plates.  Garmin even adjusts the size of the holding racetrack based on your speed.  All I need from a plate is the altitude decision points and, with the advent of WAAS and vertical nav, I won't need that.  I don't even time holding legs since you can either fly the race track or use the bearing and distance information to manage the hold.  It is no benefit to have the plates displayed.
