Your gear failure to extend problem is almost certainly the result of
failure of the Ford starter relay furnished with the kit, especially if it's
several years old now. You'd find that even a new Ford starter relay will
fail in this application after 50 - 100 gear extensions.
The solution is to replace it with heavy duty Bosch power relays and the
addition of a full wave bridge diode to furnish both long-term arc
protection for the Bosch relays and + 12VDC for the gear transition light.
You will find a wiring diagram and instructions for the installation in
June/July 2000 LNN.
