Wow Ed,
That's EXACTLY what I did on mine.  After screwing in the AN842 I ploped a
big gob of micro over each end of the tube and fitting. Then sanded it to a
nice shape and painted it the same color as the panel.  I also masked off
the front of the tube and painted the back white for better fuel visibility.
Looks good, works good, lasts long time.
