The embedded mesh was part of a rather extensive system of making a
fiberglass airplane conductive which included other tidbits like wire leads
to give the electricity a path to follow other than through hinge bearings
which could weld frozen in a lightning strike. It was a NASA funded
project that S-H got. It actually worked very well. S-H did offer it as an
option on the Glasair III, but sold exactly zero. Reason: $30K option
that did not make the plane go faster or carry more or save fuel. The
perceived need by the homebuilder market was obviously below that dollar
threshold!
