I am having a problem setting the elevator trim tab travel. The clevis
and threaded rod supplied with the Ray Allen (MAC) servo are too long.
With the clevises (clevi?) screwed all the way in, the trim tab has too
much down travel and not enough up. The manual states that up and down
travel should be equal. While extending, the clevis actually binds on
the control horn, exerting nasty bending forces long before the servo
reaches maximum extension.

To find the required length, I set the servo to its mid travel point,
then bent up a piece of wire long enough to place the trim tab even with
the elevator. The length needed is 2". The supplied linkage is 2.5" at
its minimum length. Removing the two locknuts from the threaded rod
allows me to get down to 2.25". A simple solution would be to trim some
material off the back end of each clevis. They currently have 7/8" of
thread engagement onto the threaded rod. I would only need to remove
1/8" from each clevis to get the overall length I need.

Is it OK to trim these parts? Also, do I really need the locknuts? The
clevises can't turn, since they are already held captive by the cottered
pivot pins at each end, which are quite snug.

Thanks,

[I had the same problem with the trim tab on my 360... I trimmed the
back ends of the clevises just as you descirbed and never looked back.
