Subj: TSIO 550 -E Lean of Peak or rich of peak?
Hi Marv;
I have a lancair IV. We first flew it in July of 1999. It has 135 hours. 3
crankshaft's later, it seems to be running fine. My question is, rich of
peak or lean of peak? Do you have any information or know anyone with the
right answer? Everyone seems to have a different way of running the motor.
Do you know anyone who has a high time TSIO 550? Example: TSIO 550 1000 hrs TBO. If you run it at 22 gallons an hour (rich
of peak) you use 22000 gallons of fuel @ $2.50 per gallon = $55,000 worth
of fuel. same motor, 1000 hrs TBO, lean of peak @ 18 gallons per hr or less is 18000
gallons @ $2.50 per gallon = $45,000, a savings of $10,000 in fuel
consumption. The question is, will the motor last longer on lean or rich? We are installing GAMI injectors. After lean testing the CHT's and TIT's
run cooler lean of peak. Any help?
Thanks so much. Jeff Scranton
