Egads.
 
Mixture cut-off ensures all fuel is burned, thus fuel cannot wash away lubricant needed in the next start.  You should also be able to see slight rise in rpm indicating idle mixture was set properly.
 
Ignition shut down method has no redeeming values.  Momentum run-on allows fuel to run into engine.
